Many straight people find that professional counselling helps them understand what has happened which in turn helps them to plan ahead in order to rebuild their lives. In the UK, Relate is well known for helping couples whose relationship is in difficulty. In addition, there are many counsellors across the country who specialise in sexual orientation and/or relationship issues.
The counsellors listed below have been in touch with Janice in response to an email she sent in December 2008 to publicise SPA. Janice can’t vouch for their professional skills and/or
qualifications: you’ll need to check that for yourselves. You’ll also need to
check their fees against those charged by other counsellors. You’ll find many other counsellors in your area
in the phone book, or your GP may be able to refer you. In fact Janice's GP did that and she found the input was invaluable.
Firstly there are two websites that list counsellors in your area. The BASRTis a national charity for sexual and relationship therapy. Just click on the 'therapists' link at the top of their home page.
The Counseling Directory is a extensive network of UK counselors and psychotherapists, with information on their training and experience, areas of counseling covered, their fees and contact details. You can choose from a variety of issues, and you can browse the list for counselors who practice in your area.
